In today's simulation debate, delegates were presented with a clause regarding the continual conflict between Israel and Palestine, that could either be voted against or in favor of. The clause that was address is as follows: “The Delegation of the United State urges all countries to allow both Israel and Palestine to make their own decision.”
The Delegate of the United States opened the discussion by addressing a few considerations with regards to the clause at hand. The delegate expressed his thoughts about the difficulty of speaking in place of other countries without understanding what they go through. The delegate stated the following: “As a delegate of the United States, I feel that other countries cannot put themselves in Israel and Palestine's shoes and the decision placed upon them.”
The Delegate of the Russian Federation motioned an appeal to show his determined support of the clause.
At the end of this motion, all the delegates were all given a chance to vote against or in favor of the motion. As a result of everyone voting in the favour of Israel and Palestine making their own decisions, the clause was cleared.
Overall, the debate was rather insightful and the delegates showed an enormous amount of interest.
