What does she do?
In the United Nations, the Deputy Secretary-Generals (Deputy SecGens for short) are the deputies to the Secretary-General. They help manage the Secretariat duties and handle many of the administrative responsibilities of the SecGen. The duties of the Deputy Secretary-General are as follows:

To assist the Secretary-General in the management of operations of the Secretariat.

To act for the Secretary-General at United Nations Headquarters during the absence of the Secretary-General and in other cases as may be decided by the Secretary-General.

To support the Secretary-General in guaranteeing inter-sectoral and inter-institutional coherence of activities and programs and to support the Secretary-General in advancing the profile and leadership of the United Nations in the economic and social spheres, including further efforts to strengthen the United Nations as a leading center for development policy and development assistance.

To represent the Secretary-General at conferences, official functions, ceremonial functions, and other occasions as may be decided by the Secretary-General.

To undertake such assignments as may be determined by the Secretary-General.
